The shock mount is the mounting point between the suspension shock and the vehicle body. Shock mounts consist of a rubber mount and usually a metal plate with studs to bolt the mount to the body of the vehicle. Vehicles that use front shocks will have bearings incorporated in the shock mount to allow the mount to turn with the shock and front wheels.
Over time the shock mount rubber breaks down allowing the shock mount to move around and emit an audible clunking sound when taking your Porsche over bumps. The only way to repair the shock mount and stop the clunking noise is to replace the shock mount.
Replacing Your Porsche Shock Mount
Since shock mounts from the same manufacturer should have approximately the same lifespan, it is recommended to replace them in pairs if one fails. It is also recommended to replace the shock mounts when the shocks are replaced since the mount must be removed to replace the shocks.
Replacing shock mounts requires the removal of the suspension shock. On vehicles with coilover shocks, the coil springs must be removed from the shock in order to remove the shock mount and spring compressor. Most shock mounts can be replaced in one to two hours.
